After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances

(mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social)

The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse

I just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' here

On all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instances

Threads will lose over 13K total

I understand it's rough to lose accounts you follow from Threads but unfortunately it is not worth the risk

Hopefully people on Threads will realize the true origin of the company running their platform and will make the decision to join us here in the Fediverse ❤️ :fediverse:

I really really tried making this work but I cannot go any further

Mark Zuckerberg is a person I cannot and will not with with in any way. Sorry not sorry

Some people may wonder why it's now and not before and I would like to try and explain as good as I can

We are a relative large instance in the Fediverse so that comes with a lot of responsibility in making decisions. One of our main goals is safety but we also want to be open and connective until a certain point

Threads promised to be different and we always kept it with a grain of salt but did let the people decide if they wanted to block or not

The new policy is just far over the fine line

@stux I’m new here, and I found it because I was trying to get away from anything connected to Meta or Musk., especially after Zuck’s recent announcement.
However, I don’t know what the Fediverse is - could you explain in language a non-techy can understand? 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Venta @stux The "fediverse" is the name for the federated social web -- different platforms which can connect. Just like you used to only be able to send email to another AOL account (if you recall those days!) right now people can only interact with users on the same platform e.g. Facebook. With the fediverse, you can talk between platforms e.g. from Threads to Mastodon and between different Mastodon servers (as well as other services like Flipboard, Ghost, and Pixelfeed). HTH!

Maj - Michele Ann Jenkins

@stux @Venta These are great but we also need to develop messaging that doesn't say "Protocol" (or "server" or "platform")... These terms are off putting and don't connect with what people are thinking about ("I want to follow Timothee Chalamet!" "I hate seeing racist and sexist posts!" "I don't want ads" etc...)

@maj @stux @Venta "I'm tired of the algorithm deciding for me what I see in my timeline."

@alterelefant @stux @Venta Can you say it without saying "algorithm" ?

@maj yes, replace algo with owner's name.

@maj @stux @Venta Take the word algorithm out and say something like, I am tired of a hyped social media timeline and looking for real human interaction.
