“The Conservative national campaign director told media outlets Tuesday their journalists won't be allowed to travel with leader Pierre #Poilievre on his campaign plane and bus during the upcoming election, ending a decades-old tradition of reporters embedding with a prospective candidate to lead the country.” #Canada

2/ "The Liberals and NDP told media outlets they will allow journalists to travel with their leaders.
"Why does Poilievre's team feel like they need to hide him from the media and Canadians in the next federal election? He's the wrong choice at the wrong time," a Liberal Party spot told CBC News"
3/ "Poilievre has had a fractious relationship with some media outlets, including CBC News, and has denounced some of the journalists that make up the Parliamentary Press Gallery.
He has vowed to defund CBC, if elected."
@northernlights @GottaLaff
CPC figures if they can keep him away from any nonpartisan media, he has a much better chance of getting derailed by a question he can’t answer — or for which the answer will turn certain groups against him. He has zero answers to any substantive questions.
And he’s Trumpy.
@KimberlyN In the article it says he'll allow local coverage. How well does that work in Canada? @northernlights
@GottaLaff @KimberlyN @northernlights All the little papers are owned by the conservative giants; all the little tv stations are owned by mostly conservative networks. Coverage can largely be dictated, probably, or underfunded so they can keep their deeply unpopular dickhead mostly hidden.
Maybe they're keeping press off the plane/bus so that they don't get to peek at his "image maintenance regimen".
We're lucky to have a McClatchy paper in my community. You can subscribe to a McClatchy paper digitally and you get a subscription TO ALL OF THE DIGITAL EDITIONS NATIONWIDE!

“Both McClatchy and accelerate360 are owned by Chatham Asset Management, a New Jersey-based hedge fund with other assets in journalism and communications.”Miami Herald, Aug 2, 2024
Chatham Asset Management also owns PostMedia, the RW news company that owns most local newspapers in . These papers have been shilling for Poilievre for years. I read an article this morning about taxation changes that was a thinly veiled campaign ad for PP.
@KimberlyN @cassandracorvid @ZenHeathen @GottaLaff
Ah, I see. Thank you, I expect I'll avoid McClatchy, despite its down-homie name.
We need to force the sale of Postmedia papers back into Canadian hands.
Agreed. As I was reading that tax article this morning in the Financial Post, I was thinking that it’s no wonder people whose news comes exclusively from PostMedia outlets have such a skewed view of Canada. There’s a lot of overt and covert disinformation/propaganda masquerading as real news on those sites, and unless ppl get out of that insular environment, they have NO idea they’re being manipulated.
