@evan @TerryHancock Socrates worried that *writing* would weaken understanding and lead to only superficial, passive understanding. He argued spoken dialogue and direct engagement was far superior. His influence was profound then, and has echoed through the ages; we have similar anxieties with each new technological cycle. What seems to be a little different now is the role of sensationalism, often via algorithms that amplify sensational punditry.
