Ottawa place doesn't have an Explore page that shows first, which mastodon.social does have.

When I click on the globe icon, I get a view comparable to ottawa.place. Details in alt text.

Mastodon.social "live feed" page (I got here using the Globe icon on my client). Popup says "these are the most recent …"
Mastodon.social "Explore" page (which is what I see first when I type mastodon.social into the browser) Popup says "newer posts with more boosts and favorites are ranked higher …"
