] @david I wonder if this makes light of or perhaps somehow misses the point. All the good will and prior neighbourly gestures so easy to dispose, turning a calm people into stance of preparedness to inflict pain on others, the looming anxiety and future dissonance at our borders (the basis for future posturing and pushing) — that was all rather easy and fast. We are the model of excellence and have been drawn into a scheme.

Both countries offered Trump “updated” border plans that are essentially the same as they proposed to Trump months ago.
Trump needed to have a “national emergency” in order to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico, since tariffs contravene the North American free trade agreement. He’s using fentanyl and migrants as that emergency. Less than 1% of fentanyl/illegal migration to US enters via Canada, so we know that’s just an excuse — but tariffs would cripple our economy, so…

@david Trump is basically a restaurant customer who sends his starter back whilst complaining loudly to impress his mates and Canada/Mexico are the staff who take it back to the kitchen, stick it on a different plate and bring it back out.
Meanwhile every other customer thinks he's a wanker and someone is definitely going to spit in his main course.
I'm sure the only reason Trump has lived so long is so many people have spit in his food over the decades that his immune system is great. Him and RFK Jr and the rest of the idiotic crew.
