Thank you to everyone who attended the #CoSocialCa AGM earlier today.
We’re an officially registered co-operative and this comes with certain processes to follow that sometimes feel a bit formal.
But what was really nice was to see everyone live, even if just on video!
More to come as we share some notes in the next few days.
@boris it was so great! But I wonder if we should switch to a more informal structure than Robert's Rules. It's always so fussy.
@evan @boris You do need some rules. Roberts is American. You could use Bourinot's which is Canadian. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourinot's_Rules_of_Order?wprov=sfti1#
@tinfoiling @boris those are cool!
@tinfoiling I have a copy of Bourinot's, but I confess that I haven't read it yet. Have you used it in practice?
@mpjgregoire @evan @boris Yes and it has some differences to Roberts but is easier (my opinion). Motions are crafted without any preamble. I was told by a parliamentarian we only have rules because we don’t know how to handle situations in meetings. I always found most of the problem is people not understanding the basic rules. The best practice is that a chairperson conduct the business, and be completely neutral.
