Mills Field, a SFO Museum websiteHolding Hands with the "Fediverse" – ActivityPub at SFO MuseumSFO Museum has joined the “Fediverse”. We have begun to operate a series of automated “bot” accounts that are published using the ActivityPub protocols which can be subscribed to from any client, like Mastodon, that supports those standards. These are automated, low-frequency, accounts and they currently only support a limited set of interactions: Accounts can be followed or unfollowed, individual posts can be “liked”, “boosted” or replied to but those replies will not be answered (yet) or published on the SFO Museum websites. To get started we’ve created three “groups” of accounts: Things which have happened recently involving the SFO Museum Aviation Collection; Things which have happened in the terminals (new and old) and; Things from the collection which are related to flights in and out of SFO.

@wjmaggos @evan Do we need an ActivityPub extension for #Wikibase? Or is this a challenge on how to port the issues of discoverability of the fediverse to museum data? ;-)

@nemobis @wjmaggos We don't need an extension, but it would be very interesting to get onto the social web. I'm going to bug some people; maybe @nightrose ...?

@evan I mean a MediaWiki extension. Surely it doesn't belong in MediaWiki core. :)

Every Wikidata item has an Atom feed, like wikidata.org/w/index.php?title, but I can't seem to be able to get the #RSSparrot @birb to recognise it.

@nemobis @birb every wikidata item has a JSON-LD representation, like this: wikidata.org/wiki/Special:Enti It would be interesting to massage it into shape to be an ActivityPub actor.

@evan Would you start simple and include just the salient bits (e.g. label and description), wrapped into an ActivityPub actor data, or include all the data and figure it out later? Can all languages be served from the same handle?
