A friend suggested Indieweb as an alternative to Jetpack Social but after playing around a bit with Indieweb plugins + Bridgy, I’m struck by the high barriers to entry. If we want people to embrace a decentralized web where you can interact with multiple networks from your own instance, it needs to be much easier to get up & running.
@awsamuel The more that smart people work on it and smooth down the rough edges, the easier it's going to be for those who come after us.
@evan absolutely! And in fact it feels like that's what Jetpack Social is doing -- making it easier. But is there a reason to use indieweb instead? That's what left me feeling defeated. Or at least, disinclined to fall down a fourth-order rabbithole.
@evan that last post worked pretty well for me via jetpack social...which took me an hour to setup total, before it started working. I spent about 3 hrs with bridgy/indieweb today and couldn't get it working. So..I'd rather just pay for jetpack, I think. But if there's a reason not to do that, I'd love to know!
